Aibel uses Lakeside analytics to right-size, plan major desktop virtualization project
Aibel — a leading supplier of engineering services related to oil, gas, and renewable energy — was already a major proponent of virtualization, with more than 4,500 users already deployed on virtual desktops. The challenge, however, was to try and virtualize more than 1,500 CAD/CAM workstations that produced graphics-intensive modelling of 3D designs.
The project required knowing three key things:
- What graphics applications were in use?
- Who were using which applications and which workstations?
- What GPU processor power was being consumed by application, user, and workstation?
